498. Sam Perez – The Challenge of Ethical Journalism, A Restaurant that Hires People in Recovery and The Opioid Epidemic in America

Sam Perez is a television news reporter who loves telling stories. This passion led her to the University of Georgia, where she graduated with degrees in journalism and Spanish.

Growing up, Sam learned from entrepreneurs as she watched her parents Rob and Diane create and open DV8 Kitchen in Lexington, KY. The restaurant and bakery hires people in recovery from substance use disorder. Sam found that this community of people had stories of strength, grit, and hope.

In an effort to share their experiences and start the conversation about the opioid epidemic, she has written Deviate From Denial: Erasing the Stigma of Addiction and Recovery Through Inspirational Stories.
