You Make Me

Wonder

You make me wonder why you had to run through the airport today,
Was it procrastination or a little too long with a goodbye?
You make me wonder why your sadness fills the air like smoke and thunder
What made your heart melt and wither?
You make me wonder, how such a boisterous laugh and smile are possible,
It gives us hope for the goodness that we all desire
You make me wonder how you keep bouncing back after failures and blunders,
Amazed at your incredible gift for weathering the storm
You make me wonder if the cosmos is empty or bursting at the seems,
Life abounding on some distant planet or nothing but gas giants filling the void
You make me wonder how you became so cynical in your love,
Where did it all go wrong or was it a series of misfortune and hurt
You make me wonder how you can create such beauty with your hands,
Artistic innovation flowing like the waves of electricity around us
You make me wonder, why is your happiness is built upon more,
Plundering and walking on top of others in pursuit of greed
You make me wonder, how do we build bridges of peace
When deep alliances are unshaken with no eye towards other views
You make me wonder through the archives of my dreams when I slumber,
Filtering between the shadows of my past and the sunrise of my future
You make me wonder how the snow can look like frozen tears,
Falling in unison, quietly upon the changing landscape of our living planet
You make me wonder about the innocence that lies behind a child’s eyes,
And the secrets behind the eyes of our older selves
You make me wonder how an altered state of being can change everything about nature,
Opening my eyes to the world behind the curtain
You make me wonder every time I go under,
So thankful that I arise on another day ready to be in awe
